Weekly Epidemiological Report for West Nile Virus infection, Greece, 2026- 29 July 2026 -

2026年7月29日までに、42例の地域内感染によるウエストナイルウイルス感染患者laboratory diagnosed locally acquired cases of WNV infection が NPHO に報告され、うち37例が神経侵襲性疾患 neuro-invasive disease (WNND, 脳炎 encephalitis and/or 髄膜炎meningitis and/or 急性弛緩性麻痺 acute flaccid paralysis) で、5例は軽症(発熱など)である。
先週新たに21例が診断され、報告された。新たに確認された1例は、常在国を含む複雑な海外渡航歴があり、暴露した国が特定されていないことなどが懸念されている。2026年の7月29日までに記録された4例の死亡例は、侵襲性疾患に罹患した65歳以上(中央値75歳の66歳から91歳)の患者であった。侵襲性疾患の年齢は、19歳から91歳までの中央値70歳の患者だった。

From 24 to 30 July 2026、新たに4例の ヒトの鳥インフルエンザウイルス感染例 casesof human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2) virus が WHO in the Western Pacific Regionに報告された。いずれも中国からの報告である。
 江西省 Jiangxi Province の72歳女性、with symptom onset on 5 July 2026
 江蘇省 Jiangsu Province の12歳男児、with symptom onset on 6 July 2026
 甘粛省 Gansu Province の3歳女児、with symptom onset on 11 July 2026
 雲南省 Yunnan Province の58歳女性、with symptom onset on 13 July2026
互いに地理的に異なる地域から報告された。
1例には直接の生きた家きんとの接触歴が報告されている。3例には生きた家きんを売る店もしくは wet market を訪れたことによる暴露の可能性がある。2例は慢性の呼吸器疾患があり入院したが、のちに退院している。2例は軽い呼吸器の症状があったが入院せず、報告時点で回復した。
Since 2015, a total of 177 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2), including two deaths(both with underlying conditions), have been reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region. Of these,174 were reported from China, two were from Cambodia, and one was from Viet Nam

 reported were geographically distinct from each other. One case reported directexposure to live-poultry, while three had potential exposure related to live-poultry stalls or wet marketvisits. Two cases with underlying chronic respiratory disease conditions were hospitalized andsubsequently discharged. The remaining two cases experienced mild illness, were not hospitalized and hadrecovered at the time of reporting.Since 2015, a total of 177 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2), including two deaths(both with underlying conditions), have been reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region. ヒトの鳥インフルエンザ avian influenza A(H9N2) 感染例の多くは家きんに関連し、大部分が軽症である。H9N2 ウイルスの感染循環のある家きんのいる地域で、散発的なヒトの感染の発生が予想される。現時点でヒト-ヒト感染伝播の証拠はなく、支柱での感染拡大リスクは低いままである。

Human infection with avian influenza A(H5N6) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H5N6) virus was reportedto WHO in the Western Pacific Region. The last case was reported from Chongqing Municipality, China,with symptom onset on 16 April 2026.Since 2014, a total of 93 laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with influenza A(H5N6) virusincluding 58 deaths (CFR 62.4%) have been reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region.

Human infection with avian influenza A(H5) virus, unsubtyped virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H5) virus was reported toWHO in the Western Pacific Region. The last case was reported from Long An Province, Viet Nam, with anonset date of 9 November 2024

Human infection with avian influenza A(H3N8) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H3N8) virus was reportedto WHO in the Western Pacific Region. The last case was reported from China with an onset date of22 February 2023. To date, a total of three laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with influenzaA(H3N8) virus with one death have been reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region.

Human infection with avian influenza A(H7N4) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H7N4) virus was reportedto WHO in the Western Pacific Region. To date, only one laboratory-confirmed case of human infectionwith influenza A(H7N4) virus has been reported to WHO. This case was reported from China on 14 February2018.

Human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus was reportedto WHO in the Western Pacific Region. To date, a total of 1 568 laboratory-confirmed human infectionswith avian influenza A(H7N9) virus, including 616 fatal cases (CFR: 39.3%), have been reported to WHOsince early 2013. The last case reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region was in 2019.

Human infection with avian influenza A(H10N3) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H10N3) virus was reportedto WHO in the Western Pacific Region. The last case was reported from Guangdong Province, China, withan onset date of 29 December 2025. To date, seven cases of human infection with avian influenzaA(H10N3) have been reported globally.Most previously reported human infections with avian influenza viruses were due to exposure to infectedpoultry or contaminated environments. Since avian influenza viruses, including avian influenza A(H10N3)viruses, continue to be detected in poultry populations, further sporadic human cases could be detectedin the future. Currently, available epidemiologic information suggests that the avian influenza A(H10N3)virus has not acquired the ability for sustained human-to-human transmission, thus the likelihood ofspread among humans is low.

Human infection with avian influenza A(H10N5) virusFrom 24 to 30 July 2026,no new caseof human infection with avian influenza A(H10N5) was reported toWHO in the Western Pacific Region. To date, one case of avian influenza A(H10N5) virus has been reportedfrom Zhejiang Province, China, with an onset date of 30 November 2023.Avian influenza A(H10) subtype viruses are known to be distributed in domestic and wild bird speciesworldwide. They are classified as low pathogenic and occasionally infect mammals (e.g., pigs). Humaninfection with avian influenza A(H10N5) is unusual; however, given the sporadic nature of human infectionwith H10Nx, this is not an unexpected event. There is no evidence of sustained human-to-humantransmission of influenza A(H10Nx). Human infections of avian influenza need to be monitored andassessed for any indications of changes in transmissibility and virulence

Dengue cases in Costa Rica rose by 6% compared to the same period in 2025.
The Ministry of Health reports 1,875 cases as of epidemiological week 27.

Dengue cases in Costa Rica show a 6% increase as of epidemiological week 27 of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. According to the Ministry of Health's Epidemiological Bulletin, the country has recorded a total of 1,875 cases of the disease.

This figure represents 109 more cases than in the same period of 2025; 1,766 cases were reported during epidemiological week 27 of 2025.
Since the first cases were identified in December 2025, 22 deaths have been reported.

OUTBREAK – Infant dies of mpox

Mpox has claimed the life of another child. The victim was a one-month-old infant who died in the Atsinanana region, according to an update on the epidemic’s progression provided yesterday by Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria, the incident manager for the Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP).
Since the first cases were identified in December 2025, 22 deaths have been reported.
The victims are primarily individuals living with HIV/AIDS and children.
"Pregnant women, children under the age of five, and people with chronic illnesses are the most vulnerable to this disease. They face a high risk of complications and death," explains an infectious disease specialist.
The epidemic continues to evolve in Madagascar. According to figures from the Ministry of Public Health covering the period from December 18, 2025, to July 28, 2026, the country has recorded a total of 4,798 reported cases of Mpox, 3,146 of which have been confirmed. A total of 2,184 people have recovered. However, the health situation remains concerning, with a high positivity rate of 72.67%.

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
Two wild boar piglet carcasses and one long bone of wild boar were found positive for ASF. Finding was made less than 2 km from the Russian border. An infected zone where restrictions, surveillance and measures to eradicate the disease has been applied.
